Governments at all levels develop policies that guide land use planning, development assessment, environmental impact management, infrastructure provision and economic development across the state. 

The State Government has a number of key overarching interests, including for agriculture, that guide local governments in developing their land use planning schemes and in assessing development applications. It also creates strategic, statutory regional plans that identify and support efforts to achieve regional-level outcomes that are in line with the state's interests. 

AgForce actively advocates to governments for the creation and delivery of land use plans and policies that acknowledge the vital importance of agricultural land to the current and future generations of Queenslanders and also protects the property rights and interests of broadacre primary producers. This includes in resolving land use conflicts between competing uses, such as between agricultural and mining or urban activities.

AgForce has also worked with the Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) on land use planning policies and in developing guides to provide clear outlines of legislative requirements to primary producers and guidance on planning principles for local governments.
